Vinted algorithm what Vinted officially publishes
Listings that stall, views that plateau, talk of a "shadowban"… Vinted publishes an official page on how it recommends content. We read it alongside the Help Centre to separate what's documented from what isn't.
We build AI tools to optimise your clothing photos for online resale.

You list, you wait, and the views plateau. Theories quickly spread in groups: "the algorithm is punishing me", "I've been shadowbanned", "you have to relist at exactly 6pm"… The trouble is that most of these rules can't be checked.
The good news: under the EU Digital Services Act (DSA), online platforms that use recommender systems must set out the main parameters of those systems in their terms and conditions (Article 27). Vinted publishes a help page on it: Recommended content on Vinted (we read the English version on vinted.com). The DSA is EU law: it protects users in the EU, including Ireland, but not the UK as such. The page itself is published in English for Vinted members.
We read it in full, along with Vinted's pages on Bump, Showcase and moderation. Here's what's official, what you can take from it, and what Vinted doesn't say.

The 15 parameters Vinted lists
Here are the parameters Vinted lists, with their English labels and a faithful summary of what the page says:
| # | Parameter (Vinted label) | What Vinted says about it |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Time since item upload | Used to estimate how likely a listing is to sell |
| 2 | Number of interactions an item has already collected (including impressions, favourites, clicks) | Shows earlier buyer interest |
| 3 | Item and buyer location country | Keeps listings to places where they can actually be bought and shipped |
| 4 | Item lister and buyer preferred language | Shows listings in each member's preferred language |
| 5 | Item price | Helps identify better deals |
| 6 | Item ontology | Category, brand, size, colour, photos and other attributes, matched to buyer interests |
| 7 | Item condition | Shows items in the condition buyers prefer |
| 8 | Listing frequency | Spreads visibility proportionately when a seller uploads many items in a short period |
| 9 | Seller type | Regular members or Pro sellers, where Vinted Pro is available |
| 10 | Expressed filters and search query | Applies to searches, limiting results to the stated intent |
| 11 | Item descriptions | Measures how relevant an item is to a search query |
| 12 | Illegal content | Measures against illegal content can affect the visibility of legitimate listings |
| 13 | Image resemblance | For image searches, shows items that look similar to the uploaded photo |
| 14 | User history | Promotes the visibility of new members' listings, recommended to users who viewed or bought similar items |
| 15 | User's following list | Sorts items based on the members a user follows |
Vinted also says that promoted content, including new listings and paid promotion services, gets extra visibility "through rules that limit how often they appear to avoid overwhelming members".
What isn't on the page
The page gives no weighting and no thresholds. The page only says that the most important parameters are the filters applied by members (search filters, sizes) and by Vinted's system (such as items available in a member's country), and that "these priorities can vary depending on the specific use-case and members' behaviors".
Feed and search: two logics
The page distinguishes two places:
- The homepage feed: Vinted says it uses two types of algorithms, recommenders that select the listings shown and re-rankers that order them by estimated relevance to the member.
- Search results: "Once filtered, our system ranks the listings based on relevance to the query and to you."
Vinted's UK Our platform page adds that search ranking takes into account item attributes ("how long ago the item was uploaded, the price and the brand"), engagement (impressions, clicks, favourites) and the buyer's "previous interactions with similar items".
In practice: since member filters are among the most important parameters, a listing with the wrong size, brand or colour may not appear when a buyer filters on those criteria.
Bump and Showcase: what's official
These are the two paid visibility options. According to Vinted's UK pages:
Bump (Vinted UK price list):
- lasts 3 or 7 calendar days;
- its fee "will vary depending on the chosen duration and item price".
Showcase, formerly Wardrobe Spotlight (Vinted UK help):
- highlights up to 15 listings for 7 consecutive days;
- requires at least 5 items listed;
- the fee is shown at checkout.
Neither page announces any sales result. Bumping a listing doesn't change its details or photos: it's worth checking those first.
Is there a "shadowban"?
The word comes up constantly in groups. Here's what can be said, with sources:
- The term doesn't appear on any official Vinted page we consulted (recommendations, help pages, Catalogue Rules).
- Vinted says that measures against illegal content can affect the visibility of legitimate listings (recommended content page).
- In the EU, Article 17 of the DSA requires platforms to give a statement of reasons for restrictions of the visibility of content, "including removal of content, disabling access to content, or demoting content", and Article 20 requires an internal complaint-handling system available for at least six months after a decision (DSA text).
What Vinted's pages say when action is taken:
- Hidden listing: "Once you've made the requested changes, your listing will become visible again" (Listing was hidden or removed, read on vinted.com). The UK Catalogue Rules mention a 24-hour window to act after a message about a reported listing.
- Removed listing: the same page says a decision can be appealed once, within 6 months, through the link in the moderation message.
Before concluding it's a "shadowban"
Start with the simple checks in the next section: several possible causes (incomplete details, a price out of line, an unclear photo, a hidden listing) are things you can check yourself. If you think you're the target of repeated reports, our guide Vinted abusive reports: verify if you're targeted explains how to request your data.
What you can do, parameter by parameter
Here are the parameters you control, and what can reasonably be drawn from them. These are common-sense deductions from the official labels, not guaranteed recipes.
Item ontology (no. 6) and filters (no. 10). Fill in category, brand, size, colour and condition accurately. That's what makes you appear, or not, when a buyer filters.
Item descriptions (no. 11). Vinted uses them to measure relevance to a search. Use the words buyers type: type of item, brand, material, fit, colour. Need help wording it? Our ChatGPT prompts for Vinted can help.
Item price (no. 5). Vinted's English help page on choosing a price (read on vinted.com) says a price lower than its catalogue average might help an item find a buyer sooner.
Photos (no. 6). They are part of the item ontology. Vinted's UK Catalogue Rules say photos "have to represent the item as it is", must be "sharp and clear", that "no image editing is allowed", that they must be taken by you for Vinted, and that "The first photo should clearly represent the whole item". They also recommend showing any defects, scratches or wear. More in our ultimate Vinted photo guide.
Listing frequency (no. 8). If you're clearing your wardrobe, spreading your listings out is a reasonable precaution, since Vinted says it spreads visibility when a seller uploads many items in a short period.
Time since item upload (no. 1). It's one of the parameters, and Vinted says it promotes new listings. That doesn't mean relisting in a loop: the UK Catalogue Rules say "You should only have one listing per item".

What we didn't find in Vinted's official pages
To steer clear of myths, here's what we didn't find in any official source:
- the weighting of each parameter, or a seller "score";
- the effect of deleting and relisting an item;
- the effect of a price drop on visibility;
- a recommended posting time (we cover this in Best Time to Post on Vinted?);
- the word "shadowban".
You can also change how your own feed is personalised: Vinted's help page on personalising your feed (read on vinted.com) explains how to disable personalised content in your Privacy settings.

Method. Written by the Vendy Studio team on 30 October 2026 as an English-language version of our French article, adapted for readers in the UK, Ireland and the US. We read the Vinted public pages listed below and the text of the DSA. Quoted labels are reproduced as published; explanations of the parameters are faithful summaries. Some Vinted help pages could not be opened on vinted.co.uk; we read their English version on vinted.com and say so in the text. The practical suggestions in section 5 are our deductions from these texts and are presented as such.
